Life Phrases

Lately, simple, everyday phrases people use have become more and more annoying to me for some reason. I don't know why, but it's to the point where if I hear it, a part of me laughs and dies at the same time. Yes, I know, they may have deeper meanings, or spiritual whatever to you, this is just my thoughts on them. So, here's my list of 10 phrases that you should think about never using in your life again.

1. "It is what it is."
This is number one for a reason. This phrase helps stupid people try and reason with something. Well, yeah. I guess. It is...what it...is? Because "it" is, what "it"...is. Everything is what it is. That's why it is!!! You might as well say a midget is a midget, because that's what it is. So there's a new phrase for you...instead of saying "it is what it is," just say "well, a midget is a midget."

2. "Everything happens for a reason."
Really? Please, tell me what the reason is for me being diagnosed with a rare form of polio in 2012.

3. "No offense, but..."
I'm pretty sure you mean to offend me here with whatever you are going to finish with..but because you said "no offense" before you said what you meant to offend me with, don't worry, no offense will be taken. Oh and by the way...no offense, you're a douche bag.

4. "Some of the best things in life are free."
Except if you need money to buy the things you probably really want. Last time I checked, Jack's Self Rising pizza and my iPhone were not free.

5. "How random was that?!"
Very random obviously, that's why you said something that should have never been said.

6. "If somebody would've told me XX years ago that I'd be YYY now, I would've never believed them."
Why, because they were possibly from the future, and/or driving a Delorean? Never believe anyone who claims they are from the future unless they have a hoverboard, an orange vest, and a Grey's Sports Almanac.

7. "Go hard or go home."
Thank you caveman. This dumb phrase is on the edge of being sexually dirty. Think about it. Boner.

8. "Better to give than receive."
I'd rather give you this million dollars I just found then keep it for myself. (Another analogy would be to think about conalingus, but I'll take the high road here, you pervert)

9. "Do what you gotta do."
Thank you. Now I guess I know what needs to be done with your solid advice.

10. "Strangers are just friends waiting to happen."
A stranger also might be someone who is trying to rape you. But hey, "it is what it is" right?

Things I'm digging about life right now...

Thanksgiving is long gone, and it's a new year in my 29 year old life. The days go way to quick because of the season and junk weather. I sometimes forget to stop and look around and be thankful for the things in my life that make me happy. I have a blog, so I can write it out; maybe some extra "karma" will kick in, who knows. 150 Songs in My 29 Year Soundtrack

This is a personal list of all the songs that have been part of my life somehow. Through happy times, sad times, driving in the car times, road trip times, doing anything times. These are songs that I have listened to, danced to, sang along with, and so on. I guess you can say, this is my soundtrack so far. You may disagree. You may remember listening to some of these with me. You may have sang these with me. This is kind of like what celebrities do with iTunes (Celebrity Playlists), but I'm not a celebrity. You don't have to read my thoughts on the songs, and they don't all describe why they are all on the list. You may check it over if you're bored at work, surfing the web, or just really like music. Again, this is not a typical 'Top Something' list.

This is "My List," or simply, The Soundtrack to My Life (So Far):

150. On the Other Hand - Randy Travis
My dad would listen to this everyday in the mornings, this probably started my 'like' for country.
149. House of Pain - Jump Around
An angry white, Irish rap group. Parties, sing-a-longs, you name it. You like it too. Be honest.
148. Never There - Cake
A late 90's classic. A jam that hit in high school, and still rocks.
147. Hangin' Tough - New Kids On The Block
aka NKOTB. I once lip synced this song in front of family members. There is video footage.
146. Fire Water Burn - Bloodhound Gang
From the opening guitar, and then "the roof, the roof.." BG is an amazingly fun group.
145. Lovefool - The Cardigans
This CD was rocked in UW-Dubs with Tommy K. I was a fan. It's REAL poppy, and I'm a fan.
144. Something to Change - Pennywise
Other than their BIG hit (Bro Hymn), this song did it for me. Kevo & I rocked this on road trips.
143. You Could Be Mine - Guns N Roses
My fave movie as a kid was Terminator 2. This was the theme song. The opening drums rock.
142. My Life to Live - Lars Fredericksen & the Bastards w/ Tim Armstrong
This is a love song about a man and his past girlfriends. Luke is a fan. Thanks Nathan.
141. Beautiful People - Marilyn Manson
Manson was then, what Lady GaGa is now. The video for this song redefined the music video.
140. The Humpty Dance - Digital Underground
If you have never danced or sang to this song, you are not human.
139. Silver and Cold - AFI
They bring a certain theatrics to their music. They started out VERY punk, and have matured.
138. Perfect Situation - Weezer
Being gone for a minute, this brought me back to Weezer. Plus, Elisha Cuthbert was in the video.
137. Susie Q - Creedance Clearwater Revival
Found this cassette tape in my dad's collection as a kid. This always stood out. Classic Rock.
136. Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too - Say Anything
Seriously? This song was out long before I gave SA a chance. Max Bemis is becoming my hero.
135. Kickstart My Heart - Motley Crue
This only reminds me cleaning up the Downstairs at bar time. And that makes me happy.
134. Slam - Onyx
Rap can be heavy? You can mosh to rap? Yes you can. See: Onyx.
133. Pepper - Butthole Surfers
Listening to this on "New Rock 102One," it always kept my interest. Weird, weird song.
132. Cruel Summer - Bananarama
If this doesn't make you want to dance, you're crazy. See: Phil's Dance.
131. Tha Crossroads - Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
I always shed a tear in this song. I also think of Tut and Bopper making out.
130. Electric Head: The Agony (Pt. 1) - White Zombie
This was rocked many times with Mentos, PJ, and Jerfry. Ahh, childhood memories.
129. Tomorrow - Silverchair
This was another 90's classic that started my love for the mellow alt-rock. It grew on me.
128. What Goes Around... - Justin Timberlake
My second 'boy-bandish' entry. This song is a jam, especially at 5:22 into the song. Check it.
127. Yeah! - Usher
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Downstairs Sports Bar. Just Thunderclap.
126. Mr Tambourine Man - Bob Dylan
Another song/artist my dad introduced me with. Amazing writer, amazing storyteller.

Was this written about my wife? Think so. Also, it was played a lot on the 3rd floor of Tut. UR.
124. When Your Heart Stops Beating - (+44)
A hard, sad musical time for me. But great things came out of it. Blink182/AVA/(+44)
123. Franco Un-American - NOFX
So many great songs from NOFX. Usually hate 'political' songs, but letting this one slide.
122. Scenario - A Tribe Called Quest
Umm, the start of something beautiful? Can you say "true/real hip hop?"
121. The Sign - Ace of Base
So I like a lot of music that is...umm...out there? Yeah, let's go with that.
120. Screaming Infidelities - Dashboard Confessionals
This is a song that took awhile to appreciate. But as I grew older/wiser, I got it, and liked it.
119. Counterfeit - Limp Bizkit
Huge LB fan. As I look back, this was the only good song. I was young & stupid.
118. A-Punk - Vampire Weekend
Really? They're from NYC? Not overseas? Super talented, amazing group.
117. Jurass Finish First - Jurassic 5
This makes me think of a summer day hanging out between Knilans and Tut. People watching.
116. What You Know - T.I.
Don't mind looking ghetto in your car? Roll 'em down, crank this. Have fun.
115. The Word's "Best Friend" Become Redefined - Chiodos
Thank you TG for introducing this. Heavy, then a piano, then hip hop beat? Hold on, what?!
114. MakeDamnSure - Taking Back Sunday
Wanna hang out at the Eagles Ballroom when it's 109 degrees? Hell yes I do.
113. War? - System of a Down
At 1:18, it builds up to absolute insanity. Fell in love with this group after hearing this song.
112. This is for Real - Motion City Soundtrack
This is true nerdy awesome music. The song says this is me, please accept it, because I love you.
111. Straight Up Menace - MC Eight
So I teared up watching Menace to Society and Boyz In The Hood. What of it?
110. Phone Tap - The Firm
Such a creative idea for a song. Got to love Nas and Dr. Dre collabo.
109. Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers
I remember seeing this video when MTV was on channel 11 and wondering why is he running?
108. Where It's At - Beck
Totally different style of music. Two turntables and a microphone.
107. 7 - Prince and the New Power Generation
Paul Hahn and I rocked this. It is possible to have 'rocked' and 'Prince' in the same sentence.
106. Playaz Club - Rappin 4 Tay
I did buy the single for this. It was a cassette tape single. To play in my walkman.
105. Chief Rocka - Lords of the Underground
My mom bought this tape for me, but I put the price tag over the advisory so she didn't see it.
104. Sex and Candy - Marcy Playground
Another sing-along song that I will rock forever.
103. The Science of Selling Yourself Short - Less Than Jake
I think of UW-W, summertime, and Kevin singing this drunk at the Downstairs.
102. Girl's Not Grey - AFI
Again, such a weird, interesting group. This is another U-Dub classic.
101. Joints and Jam - Black eyed Peas
Hello Girls and Boys, this was when BEP was good. Guess what? There was no Fergie.
100. U Remind Me - Usher
How hot is this song? I mean really? It came out the week of my birthday, and its...hot.
99. Karma Police - Radiohead
So mellow and amazing. I didn't originally like this group until this album. Blew my mind.

96. Barroom Hero - Dropkick Murphy's
This was the song that made me like DM instantly. How could you not? Bagpipes and Punk?
95. Welcome to the Jungle - Guns N Roses
Axel Rose. Kind of a cool front man. The intro to this song should be enough reason.
94. Mr. Wendel - Arrested Development
Milwaukee connections. This was one of my first CD singles ever purchased.
93. Can't Tell Me Nothing - Kanye West
Kanye is a jackass. He is crazy. He is a musical genius.
92. B.O.B - Outkast
I bet you can't sing this song at karaoke. If you can, I will buy you a Rosa's Italian Beef & Cheese.
91. God's Gonna Cut You Down - Johnny Cash
Such an amazing artist. Some of his best work, such as this, came later in life.
90. Ni**a What, Ni**a Who - Jay Z
I don't really need to explain this one do I? I mean he doesn't write anything down.
89. Shadowboxin' GZA the Genius
If you are from Franklin and you are a male, you should know Wu-Tang Clan.
88. Walk - Pantera
If you are from Franklin and you are a male, you should know Pantera.
87. Rum is For Drinking, Not For Burning - Senses Fail

A super talented group. They are Alternative rock. Great road trip song.
83. Glycerine - Bush

82. Ms. Fat Booty - Mos Def
Did you know Mos Def was a dope hip hopper before an actor? Check him out.
81. The Warmth - Incubus
Although the acoustic version is better, this song was always there for me in those sad times.

About enjoying life. It also relates to Milwaukee, because the band is from the Chi.
79. My Mind is Playing Tricks on Me - Geto Boys
Another ghetto song of my ghetto youth living hard in Franklin.
78. Insane in the Brain - Cypress Hill
If I smoked tons of weed and listened to this song, I think B-Real's voice would creep me out.

"Braveheart Mel Gibson War Speech" vs "This Song." I pick this song.
76. You Can Call Me Al - Paul Simon
I still think that Chevy Chase is in this band playing instruments.

67. 7 Words - Deftones
Seeing this song live changes a lot. One of my fave groups. Always and Forever.
66. Sugar, We're Going Down - Fall Out Boy
Chicago group who has some pluses and minuses. This for me is a plus.
65. A Favor House Atlantic - Coheed and Cambria
This group is crazy good. The whole thing is based on a comic book. True story.
64. Seek and Destroy - Metallica
Did you know Metallica was once super cool and really heavy? They also do not like Napster.
63. Wonderwall - Oasis
Depending on how tipsy I could be, this song could probably be moved up or down on the list.

Another one of my favorite bands. They can switch it to acoustic like nobody's business.
61. Put Your Hands Where My Eye's Could See - Busta Rhymes
One of the coolest beats in a song. Ever.
60. Blind - KoRn
This brought me back into rock music when I was rap-only. Thanks PJ, Mentos, Jerfry.

I have never, or would never, touch the stuff; but GD this song amazing. The man in black rocks.
58. Hit Or Miss - New Found Glory
For the record, this song was WAY cooler before it was in American Pie. Chris Klein is a D'Bag.

56. You Have Killed Me - Morrissey

"So let a smile out and show your teeth, cause you know you lived it well." So brilliant.

You have to have a little fun with this. I mean, the band has their own day, March 11th.
50. Feel Good, Inc - Gorillaz
So many parts to this song. Plus, I never knew digital cartoons could be so talented.
49. Basket Case - Green Day
See: #101. Please substitute a "Fergie" with "Politics-Only Music."
48. Sam's Town (Live from Abbey Road) - The Killers
This is the only "live" song on the list. It kills the original. Puts you in the peaceful mood.
47. Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine

46. I'm A Player - Too $hort
If you're from the suburbs, you probably know the lyrics to this song somehow.

This is from the movie Juice. I would watch it and wish a was a young black DJ from New York.
33. Shimmy Shimmy Ya - Ol Dirty Bastard

31. Faint - Linkin Park
Their first two albums were something completely different than what was going on at the time.

In all honestly, I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but I do get it. Some songs I do like, this is one.

07. Beautiful Disaster - 311
So rad. "butterfly in the wind without a care"
06. Juicy - Notorious B.I.G.
I agree with Diddy. Young rapper/hip hop artists should know this before starting anything.
05. Role Model - Eminem
Marshall is kind of like Charles Barkley in this song. I don't know if either would be a good one.
04. Journey To the End Of East Bay - Rancid
Rancid has been doing it for so long, and doing it right. Very simple, awesome punk music.
03. My Own Summer (Shove It) - Deftones
Anything I ever need to get out, this helps. Real Loud. In the car. Just hit play.
02. The Rock Show - Blink 182
I don't now why, but this song kind of reminds me of my wife. Not the part about the girl in the song being crazy, but the part about "everything's better when she's around." It's just a fun, upbeat, goofy song, like when we're together. Just let loose, be goofy, have fun.
01. Triumph - Wu Tang Clan
No explanation needed.

Honorable Mentions (aka songs that were very close to making the list, but I had to cut it some where. I mean, c'mon, 29 years is a long time. Plus, going through 9,188 songs on my itunes is tough to cut down to 150) In no order:

Best Buy commercials are not real...i mean...they cant be

I do not like these new Best Buy commercials where they have a 'store' person talk about experiennces of people coming in, and the 'store' person, not an actor, recalls the moment. The one that really gets me is a family is going on a vacation, the son breaks his leg or is sick or has lupus or something, and can't go. So the family decides to get a laptop and webcam so they can share the moment with him, via webcam. What kind of kid would want this!?!?! I'm at home with f*cking lupus, and you, my family, is rubbing it in with your awesome vacation...Not cool best buy sales guy...way to go...i do not like these commercials...if my family did that, they might see this on the other end....family gone...i'm throwing a party...and they have to watch me destroy the house...HAHA...now your vacation is ruined.
